Week 13: Pennies and Pineapples from Heaven
The story of the week probably was Saturday, which was a hot day. We're walking to our friend's house for a second lesson. The first lesson we had with him was really good, like we put him on date then and there good. But it was a while back because he actually spends most of the month working on his family's pineapple plantation (which is in an area without missionaries).
This guy, Thiago, lives a good hour walk from our apartment. During this walk, we passed under a mango tree and I thought to myself "I hope one time on my mission, I'm going to be under a tree and fruit will just fall straight into my hands."
The lesson with Thiago went well again. He offers us chilled pineapple when we arrive which is such a blessing. And when we're getting up to leave he offers us some more. I thought he meant some more from his fridge but no, he walks with us next door where a six wheeler truck is parked, the bed of which is full of pineapples. My man picked out three for me, and three for my companion and we are stunned with gratitude. Our fridge that night was a beautiful sight, and I'm considering my wish granted. Moreover, Thiago came to church the next day.
Bit of a long story so here's the rest of the week
- Some seriously blessed lunches
- Divisions with Elder Garega in Vinhais!
- Divisions with Elders Bishop and Santana in Itapecuru!
- Elder Tarin got mad sick while in Itapecuru (boooooo)
- Another Elder “had to go to the hospital” and since that's near our apartment they spent the night with us
- Hit all of our goals this week!!!
- Spoke during Sacrament Meeting (was not understood but no problem)
- There was a two and a half hour long ward devotional (I think every member of the Bishopric and presidents of auxiliaries gave a presentation)
My talk this week was on the importance of The Church. To be honest, there's somethings this ward does that just kinda confuses me, mainly that they choose to sing acapella (the piano can play the hymns automatically and we've offered (begged) to ‘play’ it). But the most important things aren't that, it's primarily bringing people to Christ and to one another. And this ward has great friends and are welcoming to the people we invite. The introductory story of this talk says it beautifully, that the most noticeable things are how we as humans treat each other.
By This All Will Know That You Are My Disciples”
With love and pineapples,
Elder Pinkney
