Week 23 Into the Open Sky

My dear friends,

Life is good here in Aeroporto. Wouldn't say that the work is easy, but it feels like there's a lot more energy here than my other areas. Aeroporto has been a ramo (branch) for about three years and is the unit next in line to become an ala (ward) in the mission. There's also young men who go out working with us which is a game changer for me.

Believe or not, we live close to the Teresina Airport. Actually, in smack dab in the middle of our area, which makes the geography of the branch and our area a little different, because the chapel and our house are on one side, and our member and friends live on the other side. Thankfully, it's a small airport, but usually once an hour it gets hard to teach for about 10 seconds as a plane lands.

Also, we are getting into the rainy season here. Only had one day this week when the sky really opened up on us, but members and the weather app says don't worry, there's more to come.

Word of wisdom for the week. Elder Uchtdorf tells the story of a man who saves up for a cruise, but in order to save money on the ship, brings cans of beans to eat. At the end, he learns that all the activities and food on the ship was included in the cost of the cruise. He had lived below his privileges. Many, myself included, pay the prices of living, even living in the church, and still look to the world for reward and relief. The higher joys of living the higher laws of Jesus Christ are available to all members of God's family. These joys are found in living the gospel in the world, not living the world in the gospel.

Stay dry,

Elder Pinkney
